Autocross
Autocross, also called Slalom or Solo2, is a one-car race against the clock around a tight, technical course. Courses are usually setup in parking lots or at airstrips using cones and chalk to mark boundaries. Courses are designed to test the drivers' skill and not necessarily the raw speed of the car--top speed is usually around 50-60mph. Autocross is most likely the cheapest and safest way to drive your MR2, or any car, at it's limits, and it's all legal! Drivers compete within classes which are determined by make/model of car, and the extent that the car has been modified. Stock NA MKIs and MKIIs compete in CS ("C Stock"), stock MKI S/Cs compete in BS, and MKII Turbos compete in AS. A complete list of car classes in the stock category can be found here. If you live in the SF Bay Area and want to try your hand at autocross, check out the San Francisco Region SCCA Solo2 page. If you don't live in the SF Bay Area, visit the SCCA website and find a region near you.
